Kampala International University is a leading private chartered university in Uganda with a regional presence – campuses in Kenya and Tanzania. The university is rapidly transforming into a strong centre for research and innovation to ably respond to the critical development needs of the society which is in line with the University vision and mission. KIU researchers are, therefore, aiming ever higher to reach greater heights.
Investment in research and innovations including research training at KIU is guided by both the research policy and the research agenda. We espouse regional and international standards of excellence in all aspects spanning the whole spectrum of research – from basic curiosity driven that generates research questions, to applied research and innovations with direct application to industry and society in general. Strategically, we aspire to grow our research and innovations portfolio that is locally relevant but globally competitive. This includes KIU strategic engagement with the communities to provide solutions as well as the alumni to support the university research enterprise.
The diverse academic staff both from the region and international arena enrich the research experience of our students during their research journey, and enhances collaborations with researchers elsewhere.
The university continues to build advanced research infrastructure and research equipment expected to attract more collaborators across the globe. This includes improved bandwidth and Internet speeds due to KIU being a member of the Research and Education Network of Uganda (RENU) platform that provides steady and reliable internet connectivity.
The university boasts of one of the largest libraries in the region with a wide collection of library resources including e-books and e-journal. The library, therefore, provide access to global resources due to linkages and partnerships enabling inter-library access program. Access to online journals and books enables students and staff of KIU to keep abreast of research developments globally.
The attractiveness of KIU is evident, not only by the increasing student numbers, but also from the increasing number of partnerships and collaborations culminating in MoUs. The transformation of Kampala International University into a stronger research and innovations hub contributing to social transformation and development in the community, nation, region, and internationally is unstoppable.
