The Department of Applied Psychology is enshrined in the belief and appreciation that each student is a unique individual who brings to the learning environment certain diversities. It is therefore the role of the department to assist students to harness their strengths through ensuring that the educational experience of students culminate into productive graduates who can contribute positively to the overall wellbeing of society. 

The department offers the following postgraduate programmes and undergraduate programs;

  • PHD in Counselling Psychology (PHD-CP)
  • Masters of Art in Counselling Psychology (MCP)
  • Masters of Art in Social Work and Social Administration (MSW)
  • Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration (BSW)
  • Diploma in Social Work and Social Administration (DSW)
  • Bachelor of Guidance and Counselling (BGC)
  • Diploma in Guidance and Counselling (DGC)
  • Bachelor of Social and Community Development (BSCD)
  • Diploma in Social and Community Development (DSCD)

Vision

To advance the scientific discipline of psychology by relating teaching, research, and service. The department aspires to be a leader in providing psychology education in the East African Region and to provide a cutting edge scientific research and teaching in the field of psychology.

Philosophy

In the department of Public Administration and Management, we believe that:

  • Psychological literacy among our students is key to contributing instructively to the field of applied psychology.
  • The pursuit of scientific research as both a tool for practice and teaching should be encouraged and emphasized.
  • Teaching and learning should be rigorous process that enshrines in the student a belief that hard work indeed leads to great results and corruption will only further degrade the society.
  • Every student is unique and exceptional, it is our job as lecturers to identify, nurture and encourage the genius in each and every one of our students.
  • An open and supportive learning environment is instrumental to the growth and development of any student and as such, transparency is highly encouraged in the department.
