Commercial Law governs economic and business activities. It includes such diverse subspecialties regulating activities such as those relating to  electronic transactions, contracts, companies, partnerships, insolvency, labour law, tax law, electronic transactions law, competition law among others. Commercial transcends professional legal practice and the business world - to a wide range of areas of business law including: insolvency law mergers and acquisitions, business schemes and development, national and international trade, and dispute resolution.

The Commercial Law Department of Kampala International Law Faculty of Law has built a reputation in teaching and researching in different aspects of Commercial Law at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The department has got expertise in Intellectual Property Law, Company Law, Energy Transactions Revenue and Tax Law, Competition Law, Labour Law and Regional Integration Law .The Head of Department is   Mrs Kulthum Kamugisha assisted by coordinators of teaching and learning as well as coordinators of Research   The Department is to home Research Cluster on Economic Law and Society Research Initiative under the Office of the Research Coordinator for the Department under Dr Tajudeen Sanni.

Objectives

It is the objective of the department to ensure that students are well grounded in the legal intricacies of commercial transactions and well acquainted with the basic principles of law, in a way that will put them in a position to apply them to a wide range of economic and commercial activities, within the ambit of the national and international policy thrust on which legal regulation is based. The department also seeks to make the student well-grounded in the context of  economic and business activities.
