The Department of Educational Foundations is one of the pioneer departments in the College of Education Open and Distance e-Learning at KIU. The Department is known for its focus on innovation and creativity and its ability to attract accomplished students and scholars from the world over. The department houses a number of courses at postgraduate level aimed at building capacity in areas of leadership equity and excellence; transformational change; collaborative decision making; inquiry and reflective practices. Such interactions develop candidatescâ¬â„c skills and knowledge base to solve practical problems encountered in educational organizations. The department also runs programmes that equip students with the necessary skills, knowledge and values needed to teach and work with children and adults with special needs. Other specialized areas run by the department at graduate level are in the fields of education geography, history, linguistics, English Language and sociology.

Objectives

  • The overriding objectives of the department are:
  • To produce graduates who have deep theoretical knowledge in educational management and administration, professional teaching, management and administration of educational systems.
  • To train men and women who will be able to theoretically and professionally solve intra-and inter-societal problems in light of the education.
  • To produce competent specialists with adequate knowledge, skills, concern and proficiency to meet the challenges a developing country.
  • To produce competent personnel with adequate knowledge, skills, concern and proficiency to work with children, students and adults with special needs both within and outside the school contexts.
