The Department of Mechanical Engineering is aligned with KIU/SEAS mission and vision, exploring the heights of knowledge and its application to human and societal development.

The Department is frequently reviewing her curricular to keep abreast of dynamism in the field of Mechanical Engineering and to be able to impact positively on our immediate and remote communities.

Objectives

The objectives of the programme are to equip students with appropriate knowledge and skills to enable them to:

  • Advance their higher education in research and development in Mechanical engineering field and interdisciplinary areas to emerge as researchers, experts, and designers.
  • Impart learners with theoretical and practical knowledge, skills and talents needed in the work environment.
  • Be employable and work in various fields like; industries, government and other institutions in order to meet the Millennium and Sustainable Development Goals (i.e. Eradication of Poverty and Education for All).
  • Be entrepreneurs, self-employed and job creators.
  • Inculcate creativity and innovativeness into the Mechanical engineer.

The mission of the Department of Mechanical Engineering is to explore the utmost height and breadth of Mechanical Engineering profession and to inculcate an excellent knowledge in conception, modelling and designs, implementation and monitoring, handling and operation of mechanical systems.

Our vision is to ground students at all levels in theories and practice of Mechanical Engineering and to be able to solve challenging industrial and societal problems.
