Medical Laboratory department strives to set trends in clinical laboratory services and essentially open up avenues of research in laboratory settings.

Our department is committed to instructing students academically, technically and emotionally so that they are ready for registration in Allied Health Professionalscâ¬â„c Council (AHPC).

We equip students with appropriate knowledge, skills, attitudes and ethics necessary for professional practice. We hope to have graduates whose profession will extend beyond seeking for clinical bench jobs to carrying out research in health related fields.

Objectives

The Program of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) strives to maintain a quality education program in order to accomplish the following outcomes.

  1. To provide well trained, competent employees for medical laboratories with knowledge, skills and professional attitude necessary to accurately and proficiently perform and evaluate medical laboratory analyses.
  2. To maintain a source of professionals who can constantly bring new knowledge into the laboratory system. 
  3. To supply the region with medical laboratory scientists who possess advanced skills and a responsibility of good patient care and cooperation with fellow employees.
  4. To advance the profession of Medical Laboratory Science by training adaptable enterprising individuals who will take the forefront in the changing environment of health care and accept leadership roles whether in hospital management or laboratory education.

Mission

In accordance with the goals set forth by Kampala international university Teaching Hospital and the School of Allied Health Sciences, it is the mission of the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences to provide a learning environment that enables medical laboratory science students to become competent laboratory professionals through the acquisition of the theoretical knowledge and the technical skills to students so that they may enter the profession as highly competent and caring practitioners committed to teamwork, research, community service, professionalism, and lifelong learning.

To lead the nation and the region in quality research, international class medical laboratory science education, and excellent health care promotion and delivery to societies.

Philosophy

The philosophy of the Department is to provide good quality laboratory science education to healthcare entities regionally, nationally and internationally. The department strives to provide a condusive learning environment that offers a diploma and undergraduate programs both extension and direct entry which allow individuals to develop into good workers and leaders in the laboratory medicine field.
