Course Content and Outline

Course Objectives:
To provide students with fundamental concepts on the properties and the processing of signals for communications; to provide the students with a basic understanding of the limitation of communications.

Course Outline of Topics:
Introduction to a communication system (2 hour)
Review of Fourier Transform and signal analysis (6 hours)
Transmission of signals through a linear communication channel (5 hours)
Fundamentals of amplitude modulation (6 hours)
Fundamentals of frequency and phase modulation (6 hours)
Introduction to pulse modulations (6 hours)
Review of probability and random processes (7 hours)
Introduction to noise in AM, FM and PM communication systems (7 hours)
