COURSE
JUSTIFICATION
An
understanding of the professional role and contexts of a teacher is essential
for the development of effective and appropriate professional practice. This is
in line with the professional ethics for teachers in Uganda.
COURSE
DESCRIPTION
This
course examines the nature, concern and scope of Ethics, analyses basic
concepts of ethics: ethics, moral and morality, normative ethics and Meta ethics,
moral action, moral conduct/behavior, moral standards, moral values, moral
obligation, moral principles, moral claims, moral norms, value-judgments, value
systems, ethical judgment and issues, justice professionalism, responsibility
and duty. Examines how ethical issues arise and how ethical judgments are
justified: the criteria of conduct, analyses the structure of a code of ethics,
to Educational practice, the educative development of learner as the ethical
basis of Education and the human person as the basis of ethics; examines
constituents of professionalism in Educational setting: types of teacher/head
teacher’s ethical relationships; discusses the role cardinal moral virtues and
basic ethical principles; analyses and facilitates a comparative study of
teachers’ codes of conduct.
COURSE AIM
The
course aims to develop an appreciation of, and a responsiveness to ethical
practice and social responsibility of teacher trainees so as to develop their
professional experience and competence in the relevant Ugandan Professional
Standards for Teachers at the Graduate Teacher level
