Course Description


A teacher is both a classroom and school administrator including curriculum administration. This course equips the learner with the necessary skills for effective educational administration at class, department, and school level. It recognizes the reality that teachers will be called upon to play such administrative roles without any further tranining.


This course is designed to introduce students to and equip them with relevant knowledge of education administration which will consequently act as a basis for understanding and improving the effectiveness of classroom management and school administration at large. This will include facilitating student’s abilities to explain the concept of education administration, its components and exposing them to administrative issues which stands to broaden their minds in class and after school.

Course Aim

The course aims at producing an effective administrator at class, department and school level in a school situation.

Expected Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course unit, students should demonstrate ability to:

  • Define the concept of management, administration and educational administration
  • Explain the nature, scope, functions of education administration and concepts of systems in general
  • Describe the different theories of management and their relevancies in school systems.

  • Discuss the concept of leadership, power, authority, theories and styles of leadership and also factors affecting leadership in school situation
  • Explain the systems of education and  methods of administering education
  • Role of administrators in schools and the goals and objectives of  education systems
