Course Description

PURPOSE OF COURSE

This course introduces the students to analytical appreciation of literature. The course is aimed at furnishing the student with a concrete understanding of what constitutes literature: genres, drama, prose fiction, poetry: comparative study of oral and written literature, their defining characteristics, differences and similarities between song and poem, appreciation of the aspects and value of texts.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES 

By the end of the course, students will be able to

§  Define literature

§  Distinguish between the genres of literature

§  State the importance of the various genres and their sub genres

§  Appreciate the various aspects of literature

§  Make a critical appreciation of a text
