Course Description

The main purpose of the science course is to give the students both the practical and theoretical foundation of how to teach science as a subjects to young children in lower primary schools. Students are encouraged to plan lessons and demonstrate how to teach them in a practical teaching/learning situation.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course students should be able to:

  • Explain the term science and how young children develop the concept science
  • Appreciate the role played by families and communities in the teaching of science to young children
  • Demonstrate the ability to use different methods of teaching science in lower primary schools effectively.
  • Design and adapt instructional materials for use in teaching science to children in lower primary classes.
  • Effectively assess the performances of children in lower primary classes in science subjects
