Course Description

This course introduces students to the teaching of reading to the beginners. It further explores the pre reading skills and techniques that young children should have acquired to facilitate their ability to learn and master reading in a school setting.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOME

By the end of the course, students should be able:

  • Understand the concept of reading, pre-reading, reading readiness of beginners.
  • Explain the psychological factors in learning to read in young children.
  • Describe the modern approaches in introducing reading
  • Discuss the methods of teaching reading with advantages & disadvantages of each method.
