Course Description

To introduce the students to the principles of nutrition and dietetics, the macro and micro nutrients, the relation ship between nutrients and body functioning. The course introduces students to the broad understanding to the functioning of different nutrients, their structure, toxity and deficiency. This enables them to identify the nutrients obtained from different food sources during meal planning

EXPECTED LEARNING OUT COMES

By the end of the course unit, students should be able to:

Identify the nutrients existing in the local food sources

Discuss  the structures of different food nutrients

Examine the classes of nutrients

Explain the relationships between nutrients and functioning of the body

Discuss the challenges associated with under nutrition and over nutrition

Plan a balanced diet meal for different age groups

Discuss the nutritional related disorders and the solutions to them

Explain the nutritional needs in the life time of different groups people
