Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces students to the principles of measurement of quantities for civil engineering works. It examines measurement of quantities of all elements of civil engineering works.

COURSE JUSTIFICATION/RATIONALE

This course enables the student to develop the skills and knowledge to assemble and measure schedules of quantities, including services and specific sections of civil engineering work, from project information.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

·        Compare Current Building and Civil Engineering Standard Methods of Measurement.

·        Understand the terms relating to measurement of civil engineering works

·        Acquire knowledge on how different sections of the work are measured

·        Learn how to prepare bill of quantities

LEARNING OUTCOMES

A student on completing this course is expected to:

·        Measure all quantities of all elements of a civil engineering structure.

·        Measure quantities and come up with Bills of Quantities for any given civil works engineering  project

·        Calculate variations on any civil project
