Course Content and Outline

DETAILED COURSE CONTENT 

  1. Weights and Measures: Metric system, avoirdupois imperial measure, calculations of drugs, mixtures, solution, temperature and calories (1 hr)
  2. Partial Fractions: Denominator with only Linear Factors, denominator with a quadratic factor, denominator with repeated factors. (1 hr)
  3. Linear Equations: Use of Cramer’s rule, use calculators / Computers and row reduction (1 hr) 
  4. Matrices: Basic Operations with matrices, commutative and associative laws, algebra of square matrices and areas of polygons (Innovation) (1 hr)
  5. Quadratic Equations: Factorization and expansion of various types of quadratic expressions, solving general quadratic equations by factorization, solving equations by completion of the square, quadratic formula and graphical methods (2 hr)
  6. Remainder Theorem: Long division method, function method f(x) and synthetic method  (1 hr)
  7. Surds: Simplifying surds (including reverses), laws for combining surd and rationalization  (1 hr)
  8. Indices: Laws of indices and application of product law (Mx)y = Mxy  (1 hr)
  9. Logarithm: Basic laws of logarithm, simplifying logarithms and evaluating logarithms. (2 hr)
  10. Factorial Notation: Simplifying and evaluating factorial, permutations formula and combinations, (Formula). (2 hr)
  11. Binomials Theorem: Binomial expansion, Pascal’s triangle, se of Combination Formula nCr and binominal theorem (2 hr)
  12. Series: Arithmetic progression and geometric progression (2 hr)
  13. Coordinate Geometry: Distance between points, midpoint of line segment, gradients of Strait lines, gradients of parallel and perpendicular lines, equations of lines, intersection of lines: Simultaneous equations, two linear equations, one linear and other and a curve, perpendicular distance between a point and lines, areas of polygons using matrices (Innovation) and equations of circles (2 hr)  
  14. Calculus-Differentiation: Methods of differentiation, tangents and  normal, the chain rule, products and quotients, displacement, velocity and acceleration, maxima and minima, turning points and curve sketching (2 hr)
  15. Roots of Quadratic Equations: Sums and products of roots, solving equations involving sums and products, re-writing quadratic equations with integral coefficients (2 hr)
  16. Linear programming: Geometric approach and simplex method (2 hr)
