This course presents the fundamental principles and objectives of health physics. Topics covered include;
Gases, Radio Activity, Radiation Detectors, X-Rays, Thermodynamics, Quantity of Heat in Matter/Body, Black Body Radiation, Electricity, Nerve Fibre Cell, Pressure Measurement and Fluid Notion, Hydro Dynamics, Bernoulli’s Principle and Equation of Continuity, Further Applications for Radio Activity, Human Mechanics, Human Machine, Human Metabolism, Body Temperature and Its Limits, Hypothermia and Body Mechanisms to Regulate Temperature.
COURSE JUSTIFICATION/RATIONALE
A student is expected to be having knowledge about elementary parts of Ionic physics especially the structure of an atom; Mechanics especially dimensions and some arithmetic skills attained from advanced level or its equivalent. The course unit is designed to equip learners with knowledge of physics as applied to Medical diagnosis and treatment of some human disorders. It further equips learners with the skills on how to deal with hazards involved in the Interactions of physical tools with human body.
COURSE AIM
The aim of this course is to develop the student’s knowledge and understanding of the physics and principles of operation of equipment used in X-ray Imaging, Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Therapy.
