Basic Inorganic And Physical Chemistry
This course encompasses aspects of physical and inorganic chemistry. It consists of both theory and practical components and will be delivered in form of lectures, practicals, tutorial sessions and self-directed learning.
This course lays the foundation for pharmaceutical chemistry by introducing the student to the basic concepts regarding the physicochemical principles of chemical substances.
PURPOSE OF THE COURSE
This course is designed to prepare the student to understand the basic chemical reactions which will enhance their future understanding of pharmaceutical chemistry. This course also enables the students to understand why and how chemical reactions occur.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of this course, the student is expected to:
- Describe the various concepts in physical chemistry i.e. thermodynamics, reaction kinetics and electrochemistry.
- Describe periodicity, periodic properties of elements in the periodic table, atomic and molecular structures.
