COURSE
JUSTIFICATION
School
practice is a critical component of effective preservice teacher education. It
provides an essential practice space for generating concrete problems and
issues, and applying new knowledge and skills, but also enabling the
development of an integral link between university theory and school-based
practice
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The
course intends to develop students’ experience in applying university theory
presented in the course readings to plan, implement and evaluate teaching and
learning during their school practice. Students will identify the strengths and
weaknesses of their own school practice through reference to the Uganda
professional standards for teachers, the school practice supervision tool, and
the reflection tool.
COURSE AIM
By the end of the course unit, students should be able to:

introduce
novice students to the teaching profession
·
practice
teaching skills as student- teachers
·
orient
student-teachers to teaching and learning environment
·
expose
student-teachers to various school issues such as extra-curricula activities, school management practices
·
Enable
the student teachers to acquire skills for assessing students and record keeping.
EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By
the end of the school practice, student teachers should be able to:

Conduct the lessons using
appropriate teaching/learning aids
·
Prepare and use a lesson plans
and schemes of work appropriate
·
Construct objectives/learning
outcomes that are coherent with subject content
·
Demonstrate his/her ability
to conceptualize the subject matter
·
Prepare record of work, grade
students appropriately and give a feedback to students.
