Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course will cover an introduction to biotechnology and mention its application in various fields such as agriculture, medicine, and so on. Topics on controversies in genetic engineering are discussed and how effectively it can be used to improve human lives

COURSE JUSTIFICATION

Introduces teacher trainees to the skills and knowledge on the exploitation of biological processes for industrial and other purposes, especially the genetic manipulation of microorganisms for the production of antibiotics, hormones, etc.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course unit, the student should be able to;

·         Describe and explain the modern methods of plant breeding.

·         Explain mutation breeding

·         Explain the methods of crop breeding for disease and pest resistance

·         Demonstrate skills in  genetic engineering and biotechnology
