Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Be able to use the classical laws of physics to describe the motion of point particles and rigid bodies. In the first half of the course, familiar techniques, based on Newton’s Laws, will be applied to systems in a variety of coordinate systems and references frames. The second part will focus on the rotational dynamics of the rigid body with application to some interesting mechanical systems.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course unit, students should be able to:

·         Apply classical laws of physics to describe the motion of point particles and rigid bodies.

·         Be familiar with techniques based on Newton’s Laws, be able to apply to systems in a variety of coordinate references frames.

·         Solve rotational dynamics problems of the rigid body with application to some specific system.
