Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The goal of this course is to provide the student with an understanding of the solutions and applications of ordinary differential equations. The course serves as an introduction to both nonlinear differential equations and provides a prerequisite for futher study in those areas. Main objectives: understand and solve first and second order linear homogeneous and non-homogeneous differential equations; solve second order equations using power series methods; solve separable boundary value problems; understand applications of ODE in physics, biology and economics.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course unit, students should be able to:

·      Solve first and second order linear homogeneous and non-homogeneous differential equations;

·      Solve second order equations using power series methods;

·      Solve separable boundary value problems;

·      Apply applications of ODE in physics, biology and economics.
