Course Description


Foundations of nursing I, introduces students to nursing practice with basic skills needed to provide physical and physiological care to the client so as to promote wellbeing of clients and give basic nursing care to patients. Course Aim

The course aims to equip the student with the art of providing care with compassion, respect and dignity while maintaining the standards of professional and ethical practice. 

Course Learning Outcome:

 By the end of the course, students should be able to: 

  •     Identify guidelines/procedures essential to nursing practice in the clinical setting
  •      Carry out nursing interventions to promote safety and comfort to meet physical and  physiologic needs (activity and rest, hygiene, nutrition, elimination, oxygenation, and hydration) 
  •     Identify and discuss the physical and physiologic needs of a client
  •     Identify clients at higher risk of hospital accidents
