Course Description

COURSE JUSTIFICATION

 

This course is essential because it prepares students to visualize learning using appropriate instructional materials. This course further acquits students with knowledge and skills in investing, analyzing critiquing research, and drawing conclusions based on evidence based claims.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course focuses students on; selecting appropriate learning aids used in the study of Social Studies, engaging with recent research in social studies education embedded with practical field based experiences.

COURSE AIM

The aim of the course is to acquaint students with knowledge and skills of selecting appropriate instructional materials in teaching Social Studies coupled with a solid grounding of engaging with research in Social Studies.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this session, students should be able to:

  • Explain the instructional materials suitable for specific age groups.
  • Describe the improvising, when particular teaching learning materials are not available.
  • Explain the challenges they are most likely to face when selecting suitable teaching learning aids and devise ways of overcoming them
  • Explain theoretically the rationale of constructing and using teaching aids during social studies lesson

To show how they can help pupils conduct simple research projects, as a way of learning about the environment
