Human Communication Skills 6 hrs

  •  Introduction to communication
  • A brief history of human communication
  • Definition of communication: A critique
  • Communication models
  •  Concepts and principles of human communication: verbal and non-verbal communication language; 
  •  Interviewing: definition, environment, behaviours, techniques, recording and reproduction of interview session. 
  •   Social cultural variation in communication, use of appropriate communication skills for the patients’ culture during interview

 Listening Skills 4hs

  • Active listening
  • Understanding lectures
  • Recognize change of topic; follow tutorial discussions, understanding instructions.  

Examination Skills 4hrs

  •   Understanding examination rubrics
  • Preparing and writing examinations 

Writing Skills 6hrs

  •       Thinking critically and writing clear and precise reports and academic essays
  •      Selecting and organizing relevant details logically
  •      Evidence based writing, task analysis, strategies for problem solving, drafting and editing various types of documents, and use of appropriate language in written communication. d) Writing essay
  •      Writing official and personal letters
  •       Compiling of CV

  Writing minutes Speaking Skills 4hrs

  •   Effective speaking, public address, the art of persuasion, conducting interviews, conducting meetings and writing minutes, group discussion,  
  •  Non-verbal communication cues, presenting papers/reports in tutorials, seminars, seeking clarification and explanation
  •     Giving and justifying opinions, agreeing and disagreeing.   

Counseling Skills 6hrs

     Ethical and legal issues in counseling, Process of counseling, Attributes of effective counselors, Multi-culturalism in counseling, Basic counseling skills, Attending behavior 

    Listening responses, Action responses, Use of questions, Suicide assessment 

    Client goal-setting, Treatment selection and planning, Major counseling theories: Clientcantered Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Multi-Modal Therapy, Reality Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy and Behavioral Therapy Teaching –
