Course Description

The study of Africa after the Colonial times is a prerequisite in understanding the political, economic, social set up in the contemporary Africa. This course therefore focuses students on the trends and issues of Africa from Independence that have had an influence on present situation.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course will cover politics, economy, society, culture of Africa after Independence. The course will entails a wide variety of topical issues that include, territories and regions of Africa, politics and the economy of Africa ,demography and religion in Africa , Neo-colonialism and its impact on Africa’s growth, conflict in Africa economic integrations in Africa.

COURSE AIM       

  • The social aims at exploring the social political and economic trends in Africa during the post-colonial period

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course students should be able to:

  1. Explore the principal territories and regions of post-independence Africa.
  2. Provide knowledge on the practice and manifestation of Neo-colonialism in Africa
  3. Examine the causes and consequences of the unending conflicts in Africa
