Course Description

PURPOSE OF COURSE

This course looks at the following major issues in the field of labour economics; introduction to labour economics, labour supply issues, demand for labour, employment and wage determination, and wage differentials, institutions in the labour market, collective bargaining, labour migration, mobility and immigration, unemployment and underemployment, labour in the micro economy, Gender and the labour market, Investment in human capital –education and training, and manpower planning

 

Learning Outcomes

The learning outcomes of the paper are that the learners would be able;

·         To apply the economic theories and principles in the management of human resources as employed in the production units

·         To assess the influence of labour in the production function of different production units

·         To manage appropriate reward system for the workers in the different production units
