PART A:      BACKGROUND STUDY OF THE QURAN AS A HOLY BOOK

Introduction (its meaning) (2 hours)

Its revelation and compilation (2 hours)

Nature and internal dynamics (3 hours)

Different approaches to its interpretation Tasfir and Tafsir methodology  (Analytical exegesis of the Quran) ( 3hours)

A brief note on the translation and preservation of the Quran (2 hours)

Its authenticity, uniqueness and importance (2 hours)

Types of verses of the holy Quran and their implications (3 hours)

PART B:      SELECT CONTEMPORARY ISSUES/THEMES AND HOW THE  QURAN/ISLAM ADDRESSES ITSELF TO THEM

Corruption (immorality and its forms) (3 hours)

The Quran, Islam and Social justice – with particular emphasis on justice, injustice and human rights observation and violation (3 hours)

Human suffering in this world and God’s response through rewards and punishment, Devine mercy and justice (2 hours)

Racism, slavery, secretarianism, terrorism, jihad, world peace, treatment of parents, relatives and need for good relationship (3 hours)

Systems in islam, political, social, economic (2 hours)

Role of women (2 hours)

The institution of marriage, family planning, divorce (3 hours)

 Islamic teaching on lawful and unlawful foods and special challenges to muslims in foreign land (2 hours)

Role of zakat and social development, economic (2 hours)

Dressing in islam (2 hours)

Islam and de-humanising entertainment (2 hours)
