Introduction (3 hours)

  • Government policy on Religious Education.
  • The history of teaching Religious Education in Uganda.
  • The religious Language

Relationship between Teaching and Preaching (3 hours)

  • Religious Education curriculum, syllabus and Formulation of Objectives in Religious education (5 hours)
  • Religious Education teacher, what to do while teaching Religious Education, role of RE teacher, what is expected of RE teacher to understand students. (6 hours)
  • Lesson Preparation (10 hours)
  • Scheme of work – Salient components of a scheme of work,
  • Importance of a scheme of work.
  • Lesson planning- principles for developing a lesson plan, components of a lesson plan, importance of a lesson plan.

Methods and Techniques of teaching Religious education. (12 hours)

  • Discussion- Techniques, conditions for use of discussion, strengths and weaknesses.
  • Socratic Method- Techniques, conditions for use of discussion, strengths and weaknesses.
  • Lecture Method- Techniques, conditions for use of discussion, strengths and weaknesses.
  • Brain storming -Techniques, conditions for use of discussion, strengths and weaknesses.
  • Text book Methods- Techniques, conditions for use of discussion, strengths and weaknesses.

Developing Instructional Materials in Religious Education- (3hours)
