Course Content and Outline

I) lectures (30 Hours)
i) Musculoskeletal system (10 hours)
a)    The skeletal system; The general structure of the skeletal frame work, The anatomy of individual bones, Bone development. 
b)    The Joints; Different type of joints, Structures of different type of joints
c)    The muscular system; The anatomy and functions of muscles, Muscle and functions of muscles, the Face, Neck and Mastication; the upper limbs, Muscle of respiration; the back; abdominal wall, the lower limbs; the pelvic limbs, Disorder of muscle system

ii)    The nervous system (10 marks)
a)    Introduction 
b)    Component of the nervous system
c)    Anatomy  of the  brain 
d)    Anatomy of the cranial nerves 
e)    The autonomic  nerves  and their  functions
f)    Common diseases of the central nervous systems.

iii)    The endocrine system (4 hours)
Structure and locations of the following glands
a)    Pituitary gland
b)    Thyroid
c)    Parathyroid glands
d)    Supra-renal glands
e)    Pancreas glands
f)    Gonads

iv)    Reproductive   systems (4 hours)
Structures and locations male and reproductive organs
a)    Anatomy of the male pelvis.
b)    Structures of mammary gland, and its function.
c)    Normal menstrual cycle.

v) The anatomy of the special senses (4 hours)
Structures and functions and working of the following sense organs;
a)    Eye
b)    Ear
c)    Tongue
d)    Olfactory organ (Nose)
e)    Skin

II) Tutorials/seminars (20 hours)
Students to be allocated topics in small groups to discuss certain sections of the anatomy of the organ systems as indicated below;
a)    Nervous system                  (2 Hours )
b)    Endocrine system               ( 2 Hours )
c)    Reproductive system           (2  Hours)
d)    Musculoskeletal                  ( 4 Hours)

III) Practicals (15 Hours) 
These will be gross/histological illustrations and where appropriate surface markings of the following organ systems 
a)    Nervous system                (5 Hours )
b)    Endocrine system             (2 Hours)
c)    Reproductive system        (3 Hours)
d)    Musculoskeletal system    (5 Hours)
