ii) Metabolism of Carbohydrates (6 hours)
a)      Digestion and absorption of carbohydrates (glucose Transporters)
b)      Glycolysis
c)      TCA cycle
d)     Gluconeogenesis
e)      Glycogen metabolism
f)       Inborn errors of carbohydrate metabolism  

iii) Metabolism of Lipids (6 hours)
a)      Lipid digestion and absorption
b)      Fatty acid oxidation
c)      Ketone body metabolism in health and disease
d)     Fatty liver and lipotropic factors
e)      Arachidonic acid derivatives-Prostaglandins and biochemical actions
f)       Lipoproteins classification and functions and disorders

iv) Metabolism of Amino acids/Proteins (6 hours)
a)      Digestion and absorption of proteins
b)      Glycogenic and Ketogenic amino acids
c)      Metabolism of proteins and amino acids
d)     Formation and disposal of ammonia- urea cycle
e)      Importance of products obtained from amino acids, e.g. Creatine, melatonin, Melanin, Epinephrine and porphyrins

 v) Metabolism of Nucleic acids (4 hours)
a)      Salvage biosynthesis of purines and pyrimidines
b)      Catabolism of purines and pyrimidines
c)      Disorders of Nucleic acids metabolism (Gout)

vi) Integration of metabolism (4 hours)
a)      Interrelationships of metabolites of carbohydrates
b)      Amino Acids and Lipids
c)      Fed-starve cycle
d)     Disorders of metabolism Diabetes
e)      Obesity
f)       Protein energy malnutrition (PEM)
