Course Description

The course introduces the students to the oral anatomy and physiology and then explores the diagnosis and management of common dental conditions. The students are also facilitated on how to conduct a dental extraction.

Course justification
People presenting with dental conditions are on the rise according to the Ministry of health report (2014).Clinical officers as officers who interact with patients in the community need to have basic knowledge about dental health to enable them to enable them provide basic dental care, identify and refer severe dental cases and to conduct health education to the community about dental diseases.

Course Aim
The aim of teaching dental health is to equip the clinical officer with knowledge, skill and attitudes necessary to manage common dental problems.
Educate the public about oral land   hygiene.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, the trainee should be able to:
a)      Describe oral and Dental Anatomy and Physiology
b)      Describe simple dental extraction procedure.
c)      Describe post extraction tooth complications.
d)     Demonstrate   ability to manage   common   dental problems.
e)      Explain the importance of giving health talks on oral dental hygiene
