I) Lectures (45 Hours)
i) Principles and theories of management (10 Hours)
a)      Management concepts
b)      Essence of management in health care
c)      Management  functions
d)     Roles and styles of management and leadership
e)      Team building
f)       Management cycle; Planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation

ii) Managing health services (15 hours)
a)      Strategic management
b)      Operations management
c)      National health  plans
d)     Financial management supplies management / logistic cycle
e)      Human resource management; Staff development, Support Supervision, Staff motivation, Staff performance  appraisal, Effective management of other resources
f)       Management of information (HMIS);
g)      The health unit management committe

ii) The organizational structures of health services in Uganda (6 marks)
a)      Types, levels  and functions of health facilities:Vilage health team, Health centre II,Health centre III,Health centre IV,Health centre V,Health centre

VI,Health centre
b)      Organograms for DHO,Hospital and Health center Organogram
c)      Private Public Partnerships 

iii) Community oriented aspects: (10 hrs.) 
a)      Primary Health Care (PHC),
b)      Health promotion & School health programmes.
c)      Public health: epidemic Investigation, monitoring, Evaluation & control.      
d)     Management of community emergencies;
e)      Disease screening; surveillance and prevention
f)       Design of training programme for the community
g)      Development of relevant materials for training the community, Programme Planning, implementation & assessment of effectiveness.
h)      Report writing & Dissemination

iv) Health agencies and boards (5 Hours.)
a)      Observation of and participation; decision making, reporting, monitoring and evaluation functions of Management committees and boards
b)      Statutory Bodies and programmes at international, national, regional / provincial and district levels. Roles of these must be understood clearly by every student as under listed below;
c)      Centre for Disease Control (CDC);
d)     World Health Organization (WHO);
e)      Medical and Dentist Practitioners Council;
f)       Pharmacy Council; Nurses and Midwives Council;
g)      Allied health professionals council (AHPC); 
h)      District Health Management  Team (DHMT) 
i)        Hospital Management Teams (HMCs/Ts)
j)        Health Unit management committees.

b) Field practice (45 hours)
The students will spend two weeks in a health Centre and appreciate the various aspects of health Centre management including;
a)        Financial management
b)        Drugs  and supplies management
c)        Management of information (HMIS)
d)       Health Unit inventory management
e)        Staff performance appraisal
