Course Description

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. The course is done offering lectures, tutorial and practical activities, on common medical conditions.it covers the causes, clinical features and management of communicable diseases, hematopoietic disorders, cardiovascular disordes and skin disorders. This course will give more time to rotation than class work since most conditions have been covered in semester one.

Course justification
Adults are the mainstay of patients presenting in health facilities. Due to the limited number of physicians the clinical officer ought to be trained in order to provide  appropriate clinical care to such cases and refer cases that are beyond their scope.

Course Aim
The aim of teaching this course is to enable the learner to a to acquire competencies in the management of diseases /conditions among adult patients

Course Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, students should have the ability to;
a)      Diagnose and manage common medical conditions
b)      Carry out appropriate investigations
c)      Identify and manage emergencies
d)     Refer patients appropriately
e)      Prescribe and administer appropriate medications for the various medical conditions
