Course Description

5.0 Course description

This course introduces the students to the surgery field by teaching the main skills which will allow them to make an adequate approach to the patient with surgical conditions, enabling them to correctly diagnose and treat surgical patients.

6.0 Course Justification  

Though clinical officers need limited surgical skills, they need to offer the cource so as to diagnose and adequately manage the most common minor surgical conditions and refer those beyond their scope.

7.0 Cource Aim

The aim of teaching surgery to the Clinical Officer is to equip him/her with knowledge, skill and attitudes necessary to manage common surgical conditions.

8.0 Learning outcomes 

After this course, the trainees should be able to;

a)      Diagnose advice and counsel patients.

b)      Manage patients with surgical conditions.

c)      Carrying out laboratory   investigations in surgical and nursing procedures.

d)     Carry out simple surgical procedures

e)      Refer complicated surgical conditions
