Course Description

  • The course will introduce the student to the historical fundaments of the law of real property as opposed to the law of chattels.  It will also give a student an insight of how medieval English land law influenced statutory land law in East Africa.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  1. Explain the historical origins of the English law of real property and its introduction into the colonies.
  2. Explore the dynamics of customary land law in Uganda and its evolution to date.
  3. Explore the evolution of statutory law of real property and its evolution during and after colonialism.
