Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course introduces artificial intelligence techniques applicable in construction management and underlying theory.  It covers problem solving and planning, knowledge representation techniques, reasoning engines and expert systems, and a tour of various application areas of Artificial Intelligence in construction.

 

COURSE JUSTIFICATION/RATIONALE

This course will provide knowledge on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Modeling and Simulation (M&S) of Civil Engineering Construction

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

·        Describe relevant techniques used in Artificial Intelligence.

·        Get exposed to genetic algorithms, automated planning and scheduling

·        Learn the techniques in Artificial Intelligence to solve construction management problems

·        Understand critical analysis and potential applications of the techniques

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

A student on completing this course is expected to:

·        Determine the characteristics of a given problem that an intelligent system must solve.

·        Select  and  implement  an  appropriate  uninformed  search  algorithm  for  a  problem,  and  characterize  its time and space complexities..

·        Identify examples of classification tasks, including the available input features and output to be predicted.

·        Apply genetic algorithms, automated planning and scheduling
