Course Description

PURPOSE OF COURSE

This course introduces the student to the methodology of managing IT/Software projects.  Topics covered include: Project Planning- life cycle, phases, scope and structure; process control – time, cost, resource management, activities, activity duration estimation and sequencing, procurement, project cost estimation, project scheduling and tracking using Microsoft project software. Network Analysis-PERT (Program evaluation and Review technique) and CPM (Critical Path Method) analysis, Work-breakdown structures.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the course unit, students should be able to;

 

·         Have a general overview of what is a project and differentiate between a project and a programme.

·         Have knowledge of a project life cycle and its phases

·         Acquire modern project management techniques

  • Have knowledge in Managing IT & SW projects using a tool like example Microsoft project software.
