the basic principles of physical, analytical and organic
chemistry. It is designed to prepare
the student understand the
chemical reactions which will enhance their future understanding of related courses such as biochemistry
pharmaceutical chemistry. The course also aims at imparting practical skills to the student which will help improve use of equipment and materials in the laboratory and in

physical, analytical and organic chemistry.
Topics covered include; Gases, liquid and solid; acid and
bases; chemical equilibrium,
Analytical Chemistry, organic
chemistry, alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, Alkyl Halides, Alcohols, Carbonyl
Compounds, Carboxylic acids and Amines.
The practicals are based on; Elemental analysis, solubility tests, standardization of solutions, calculations involving concentrations and
masses, and functional group analysis. Complete
involves the determination of:
physical characteristics and physical constants in reference to literature.
