Course Description

COURSE JUSTIFICATION

To familiarize the students with cells and the various tissues that make up the Human

 

body and the purpose each serves in the normal functioning of the body. Also to be acquainted with the mechanisms of human genetics and inheritance.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

This will be a theoretical and practical course in which lectures and laboratory practicals will be crucial for proper learning.

COURSE AIMS

 

By the end of the course the student will be able to;

 

a.   Describe the cell as the building block” in the various tissues of the body and explain how the various types of cells contribute to the normal functioning of the body.

b.   Describe the structure and discuss the functional roles of the skin. a.   Discuss the basic principles of human Genetics.

c.   Explain The principles of physiology and biophysics of nerves and muscles. d.   Explain The physiology of excitable cells,

e.   Describe the muscle contraction, mechanisms and energetics, f.   Describe the spinal reflex,

g.   Describe the structure and function of the Autonomic nervous system


COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

a.   By the end of the course, the students should be able to;

 

b.   Discuss the concept of homeokinesis and control mechanisms

 

c.   Discuss the structure and function of various cells in the human body d.   Explain the principles governing human genetics
