Course Description

PREREQUISITES: For one to understand the scope of the Anatomy must have had the basic Biological studies at Advanced and Ordinary Levels.

COURSE JUSTIFICATION:

The course shall expose the students to an appreciation of the structural and functional relationships of cells and tissues in presumably normal state. It will also promote the concept of current cytological and histological techniques in demonstrating and identifying the various types of tissues in the body.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This will be a theoretical and practical course in which lectures, tutorials for critical thinking and practicals will be conducted to equip students with knowledge of the microscopic structure of the different systems and organs so as to understand better their functions.

COURSE AIMS

By the end of this course, the students should be able to:

a.   Name common current cytological and histological techniques

b.   Enumerate the principles, techniques and functional applications of cytology and histology.

c.   Define and explain the cell in relation to its environment, surface components and content.

d.   Describe the interrelationship and interdependency between cell structures and functions.

e.   Identify the microscopic appearance of tissues such as bones, cartilage etc in relation to their staining.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
