COURSE JUSTIFICATION:
The course facilitates students to learn the functioning of the alimentary tract and its associated organs that will help them understand metabolism and digestive system related pathologies.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This will be a theory and practical course to introduce students to principles of alimentary tract function and the related organs
COURSE AIMS
During the course, the students will be facilitated to;
a. Describe the components of GIT and their roles in the normal functioning of the body.
b. Describe the functional Anatomy of the GIT and discuss the roles played by the
GIT in the normal functioning of the body.
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course, the student should be able to do the following;
i. Outline the functional Anatomy of the alimentary tract and its functionally related organs
ii. Describe and explain the secretory function of the alimentary tract and its functionally related organs
iii. Discuss the digestion of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and vitamins, and absorption and metabolism of the nutrients there from
iv. Describe the absorption and explain the metabolism of water, electrolytes and minerals
v. Explain the origins of gases in the alimentary tract and what happ
