1.    CELL BIOLOGY (4 LH)

 

a)  Organization of cellular structures and their functional roles

 

b)    Introduction: Importance of the cell, the types: Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells, Essential differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell.

c)  Organelles:

 

i.    Nucleus: Its structure and functions.

 

ii.    Mitochondrion: Its structure and functions.

 

iii.     Endoplasmic Reticulum: Types structure and functions.

 

iv.    Golgi Complexes: structure and functions.

 

v.    Lysosomes: their structure, functions and inherited disorders/disease.

 

vi.     Peroxisomes: their structure and functions.

 

vii.     Cytoskeleton:   the   structure   of   actins,   intermediate   filaments   and microtubules and their functions.

d)  Cell membranes, mechanism of transport across typical cell membrane.
