Course Description

PREREQUISITES: PHALYTICAL CHEMISTRY (CHEM 1204) COURSE JUSTIFICATION

This course introduces the basic fundamentals of instruments and their applications in biochemical Analysis.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

This will be a theoretical and practical course introducing students to biochemistry to as to understand the functioning of systems and cellular level and their metabolisms to introduce  the  students  to  Biochemistry,  structure,  function  and  metabolism  of  the different biomolecules and their role in body function.

COURSE AIMS

 

At the end of the course the students are expected to be able to:

 

a.   Describe various instrument used in the biochemical laboratory b.   Discuss the principles and applications of biochemical methods.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

By the end of this course, the student should be able to;

 

9. discuss  the  principles  of  methods  commonly  used  in    conducting  laboratory practicals in biochemistry

b.   carryout   some   biochemistry   laboratory   practicals   including;   chromatography, spectroscopy, spectrophotometry, centrifugation and others
