Course Description

PREREQUISITES

 

The student should have studied and successfully completed the multi-professional courses which include Biology / Chemistry / Physics and Mathematics which are tailor made for medical sciences.

COURSE JUSTIFICATION

 

Introductory  concepts  to  Human  Physiology,  Homeostasis,  Physiological  Variations which itself requires that the student understands the normal functioning of the human body.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

This will a theoretical course delivered mainly through interactive lectures with critical thinking discussions and demonstrations.

COURSE AIMS

 

By the end of this course, the student should be able to do the following;

 

a.   Describe the components of Urine formation in the body.

 

b.   Describe the functional Anatomy of the urinary system and discuss the roles played by the renal system in the normal functioning of the body.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

By the end of this course, the student should be able to do the following;

 

a.   Describe the functional Anatomy of kidneys and urinary tract

 

b.   Explain the glomerular process in urine formation and concetration c.   Discuss the homeokinetic mechanisms in the kidneys

d.   Explain how urine is stored and excreted

 

e.   Explain the importance of the kidneys and urinary tract in normal functioning of the body


Perform urinalysis and kidney function tests
