COURSE JUSTIFICATION
This will be a theoretical and practical course that will introduce students to principles of immunology and how they are altered in health and disease.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This will a theoretical course delivered mainly through interactive lectures with critical thinking discussions and demonstrations.
COURSE AIMS
a. Describe immunity
b. Describe the complement system c. Discuss immunogenetics
d. Describe B cell development, differentiation, regulation and activation e. Explain cellular immune responses
f. Discuss immunity and infections
COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
At the end of the sub unit the students should be able to know the following:
a. Locate the organs of the immune system and state their functions
b. Dicuss the Major histocompartibilty system and its importance in innunolgy
c. Describe the complememnt system protons and their properties, regulations, mechanisms of activation and functions
d. Discuss immunogenetisc including genes that encode immunoglobulis and antigenic receptors
e. Discuss B cell development, differentiation, and mechanisms of activation
f. Explain cellular immune response including T-cell development, regulation, mechanisms of activation and functions
g. Carryout investigations of cell-mediated immunity
