Course Description

PREREQUISITES: Chemistry and Biology and biostatistics

 

COURSE JUSTIFICATION

 

This course introduces students to the basic principles in Pharmacology. This will be a theoretical and practical course to equip students with critical thinking practical skills in pharmacology, and apply them to understand the effect of drugs and medicines on body function.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

This will a theoretical course delivered mainly through interactive lectures with critical thinking discussions and demonstrations.

COURSE AIMS

 

By the end of this course, the student should be able to do the following;

 

a.   Define various pharmacological term

 

b.   Describe the relationship drugs and their response c.   Describe the ADME principles

d.   Describe the drug regulatory policies and monitoring

 

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

By the end of this course, the student should be able to do the following; a.   Explain the concepts of pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics b.   Discuss ANS pharmacology

c.   Explain the effects of drugs acting on the CNS d.   Discuss concepts of drug abuse and dependence e.   Describe drug regulations in Uganda
