Course Description

COURSE JUSTIFICATION:

 

This course aims to:  Describe the basic principles of function in the entire alimentary tract and specific functions of different segments of the tract.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

This is both a theoretical and practical course that introduces students to the current trends in gastroenterology.

COURSE AIMS

 

During the course of study, the students will be facilitated to;

 

a.   Describe the structure and innervations of the GIT

 

b.   Explain the regulatory substances in the GIT

 

c.   Explain GIT motility and secretions

 

d.   Explain the processes involved in digestion and absorption.

 

EXPECTED LEARNING PUTCOMES

 

a.   Explain the motility function of the alimentary tract

 

b.   Explain the secretary functions of the alimentary tract c.   Explain the absorption function of the alimentary tract

d.   Describe the current advances in alimentary tract and the functionally associated organs
