Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to teach civil engineers how to design a highway project including all major phases of planning and design as well as to introduce students to urban traffic engineering design and problems.

 

COURSE JUSTIFICATION/RATIONALE

This course will provide knowledge on highway planning, geometric design of highways, highway maintenance and public transportation. In addition, traffic flow and fundamentals of airports and harbours

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

·        Master the key concepts of the principles of transportation

·        Develop ability to design highways and urban roads

·        Acquire skills for planning and implementing a road project

·        Get exposed to highway alignment and super elevation design

A student on completing this course is expected to:

·        Gain ability to design a highway with all its physical characteristics

·        Plan the capacity of a highway
