The course examines the major techniques used by economists in data collection, analysis and planning. Emphasis is on developing real understanding of the methods being applied and the interpretation of results, as well as the collection of data and generation of the results through the application of standard computer packages. The major objectives of this course unit are to apply quantitative techniques to the analysis of economic phenomena and to conduct empirical research; and to understand the theoretical basis of the quantitative techniques.

By the end of the course unit students should be able to:
· Explain the statistical knowledge he or she has been equipped with to research
· Develop and use non statistical economic models
