Course Content and Outline

  •   Design variables for simple elements e.g. an equilibrium stage and complex elements e.g. a distillation  column.                                            
  •   Bubble and dew-points using K-values, vapour pressure and relative volatilities.          Flash distillation                                                
  •   Plate to plate calculations in multicomponent distillation using K-values andvitalities and their application to distillation column design. Use of enthalpy balances to plate to plate calculations. Minimum replace ratio, totalreflows. Gillilland short.
  •     Multicomponent absorption. The Kremser-Sander-  Boun equation andabsorptionefficienciency. Absorption in dilute and concentrated solutionsNon-isothermal multicomponent absorption.                         
  •   Liquid-Liquid extraction with solvent phases miscible. Simple single contactequipment maximum possible separation, cross-flow, counter-current multiplecontact, minimum number of stages and solvent.
